✨ Artistry runs in the family ✨
HouseHome is honored to share that Christine Chalfant Mechelse, founder and lead designer, is featured in THE CHALFANTS: A 150-Year Legacy in the Arts, written and edited by Audrey Lewis, former curator at the Brandywine Museum of Art.
The book traces five generations and 150 years of creativity in the Chalfant family, whose story in America began in Chadds Ford, Pennsylvania, in 1699.
It begins with Jefferson David Chalfant (1856–1931), the celebrated American painter known for his trompe-l'oeil still lifes, paintings so precise they fool the eye. His work is held by the Smithsonian American Art Museum, his papers are preserved in the Smithsonian's Archives of American Art, and his paintings hang in The Metropolitan Museum of Art and the U.S. Senate collection.
That same devotion to detail, proportion, and craftsmanship lives on with Christine Chalfant Mechelse!
J.D. Chalfant began his career as a cabinetmaker and painter of elegant interiors before becoming a master on canvas. More than a century later, Christine carries that gift into the homes she designs: layered, timeless, luxurious spaces that feel as if they were collected over generations. Her homes and interiors are featured in the book alongside the work of her fellow Chalfant artists.
Five generations. One creative bloodline. 🎨🏛️
