So….. today I call the financial team at MD Anderson Cancer Center to see if my insurance is finally showing active on their side so I can go have treatment(since no one called me), a day late. My insurance wrongfully terminated my insurance. I made five calls, six hours on phone with insurance over two days after being hung up on twice and got it corrected. The financial dept Rep called the eligibility dept and came back on the line stating my coverage is active and I should be fine for my appointment, which was an hour or so later. So I go and get my treatment, get home and within fifteen minutes later the financial dept calls stating my insurance is active and they have to get authorization for my appointment. Proceeds to say if I want to be seen before authorization I need to agree to self pay fees of thirty three thousand (something) if insurance doesn’t pay!!!!!! I told rep I called this morning and was told coverage was active and was ok to be seen as I JUST returned from my appointment. Had I know about the fee I would not have gone to the appointment!!! Rep said I should not have been told that it was ok and will proceed getting auth!!! My treatment and providers have been steller so far. The insurance and financial dept have been pleasant and professional, but needs work! I sure hope everything with auth and insurance goes well. I’ve been trying my best to be positive, but these two depts need to do better! Sure hope I don’t get a $33,000 bill that I have to fight, but my first fight would be with the insurance for their mistake! 😖😡 I can’t make this up!!!! 😖🤦🏽♀️
