It's time for this week's
✨️Serpent Spotlight✨️
Every week, I'll share a piece of jewelry and some facts about the species of snake that shed came from.
This week, in the spotlight, we have the Yellow-Tail Cribo!
Scientific name: Drymarchon corais
This beautiful creature is a large, non-venomous colubrid snake native to Central and South America. They can reach up to 10 feet in length when fully grown, and are formidable hunters.
Unlike many other non-venomous snakes who use constriction as a means of taking down prey, these guys use brute force. They subdue prey using their powerful jaws and body weight. Because they are not restricted by the constriction method, they are highly adaptable hunters and will eat just about anything they can overpower, including mammals, birds, lizards, and even highly venomous snakes.
In captivity, they are known for their intense feeding response which some people may mistake for "aggression". Just like many other snake species, with consistent socialization, they can be very docile. They are a very bold, intelligent species known for being highly alert and curious and they often "periscope" to observe their surroundings.
