We are participating in the Give Life 5K in honor of Bill — a husband, dad, grandpa (bobo), friend to so many, and one of the strongest, funniest people we knew.
Bill was the kind of person who could make you laugh no matter what was going on. Even through everything he faced, he never lost that humor.
A simple knee scope threw blood clots to Bill’s lungs which caused major issues and an urgent lung transplant. He was blessed with donor lungs and because of that, organ donation became something deeply personal to our family. That gift gave us more time with him — time we will always be grateful for. It also opened our eyes to just how powerful organ donation truly is.
This last year and a half, Bill went through more than most people ever should. What we thought were ongoing infections turned into something much more serious — angiosarcoma in and around his lungs. Even then, he faced it head on with strength, resilience, and a determination to keep going.
After beginning treatment, everything changed very quickly. His body became too weak to fight, and we lost him far sooner than we were ready for.
Now, we walk and run in his honor — not just to remember him, but to raise awareness for the life-changing impact of donation. Because of donors, families get more time, more memories, and more moments they otherwise wouldn’t have had.
We are “Running Late for Bill,” just like he always was — but showing up in a way that matters
We're proud to be part of this incredible event to support Iowa Donor Network and their mission: Working Together to Transform Lives Through the Gift of Organ and Tissue Donation.
We're raising funds to help continue this life-changing work — from community education and clinical innovation to compassionate support for donor families.
Please consider donating or joining our team! Your support will help us honor those who gave, celebrate those who’ve received, and stand with those still waiting.
