September people, your month is almost here, and if we are being honest, the rest of us are jealous. Sapphire has been the stone of royalty for about as long as records exist, and it comes in nearly every color, not just blue. For me it sits right up there with emeralds and alexandrite. Dave is convinced my birthstone is a sapphire (it's not). So far this has not secured me a massive blue miracle, but a girl can hope.

A question I get constantly: is peridot just a lighter emerald? Not even close. They are different minerals entirely. Emerald is beryl, rich and deep, and famously included, which is part of its character. Peridot is olivine, brighter and yellower, born in volcanic rock. Twenty years ago this business started at a kitchen table in Chicago. It grew into Nordstrom and Bloomingdale's, and then I traded it all for a studio in Steamboat Springs. Smaller on purpose. Buuuut I miss the women who made it happen, the EG family. Like The Bear, less agro, more sparkle. And I miss the GemBar, the most perfect piece of furniture ever.
