This guy is something special. A few months ago I evaluated him at CACC for potential intake with MidAmerica Rottweiler Rescue. I was told he had an upper respiratory infection and if it got worse, he would have about a day before euthanasia since CACC just doesn’t have the ability to isolate and treat him. MARR committed to supporting me pulling this boy and providing treatment for his now full-blown pneumonia!
His treatment has been a LOT, not only effort but also expensive! Fortunately Hinsdale Animal offers a Rescue discount (sadly not many Vets in Chicago and nearby areas offer any discount) but this has still been ridiculously expensive.
We have been back and forth for numerous rounds of X-rays to check his lungs, more X-rays due to him dripping blood from his nether regions(he has an extremely enlarged prostate), and LOTS of meds…one Antibiotic costs $14 for EACH pill…Nipsey came in at almost 130 so his dose was 1 1/2 of those pills for over 6 weeks!!! I’ll let you do the math.
Once we got his pneumonia cleared, it was time for neuter. Turns out Nipsey had an undescended testicle so we had to have a cryptorchid neuter. Fortunately his biopsy came back negative for cancer!!!
I am forever grateful for all of the support I was given through all of this! From encouragement, guidance on care and isolating Nipsey, and how to give meds to a huge dog refusing any food from our trainer and sanitizing products from foster coordinator to neuter support from an amazing volunteers Jessica and Mike. One volunteer shipped us water, treats and some new towels to line Nipsey’s crate through his pneumonia fight. My friend, Holly, at sent us another dog gate and stacks of Kraft Singles to help get those meds in Nipsey.
Rescue is such a hard job, there is so much heartbreak at the situations humans put these amazing animals through but the community is such a tight one. Once again they came together to save another very deserving dog. I’m so grateful that we are now on the other side of all of this.
