The green dial version of the Daytona was released at Baselworld in 2016 to celebrate the new 116508 reference. Back then the demand for gold sports models was not very high. But thanks to the watch hype over recent years, and after seeing many Hollywood stars, athletes and artists (most famously John Mayer) wearing this piece, it gained more and more popularity which pushed demand to an ever new high.
