Hand-carved horn flower earrings by Akola, each petal traced in fine metal inlay and warmed by the last gold of an October afternoon. Worn with the Prianka necklace: caramel horn, hematite, and a band of crystal that settles softly at the collarbone.

Fall asks for gentler colors. Cream, honey, the shade of light right before it leaves. Every piece is shaped by hand in Uganda, so no two pairs bloom quite the same.

A hand carved fish charm necklace for the days summer refuses to leave. Each fish is shaped from Ankole horn by artisan women in Uganda, following the grain of its own horn, so yours swims a little differently than anyone else’s.

Slip it onto a gold chain with a chocolate tank and white trousers, and let September taste of salt air a while longer.

Okay, come here. Look at this. No, hold it. Feel how substantial that is?

That’s real Ankole horn, carved by hand into a big, gorgeous heart by an artisan who clearly knows exactly what she’s doing. See the stripes running through it? Every one of those comes straight from the horn itself. So no two are alike. Mine is mine, yours would be yours, and honestly, I love that for all of us.

It’s called the Amara. It stands for enduring love, which, two cocktails in, feels very emotional to me.

This one is a statement. Wear it alone on a chain and let it do all the talking. Hang it off your bag. Put it on your hat band if you’re feeling bold. The clasp is 18k gold-plated, so it’s gorgeous AND it holds.

The brand is Akola. Everything is handmade by women artisans from natural materials, and it’s meant to be worn for years. Which is more than I can say for this drink.
