Testing Thick Gold Plated Jewelry with the GEMORO XRF!

XRF testing is noninvasive but one must file through the surface to get past thick potential plating.
The pocket watch seen in this video had 30%+ silver which is unusual for the standard color seen on common yellow 14K. It should be much greener with so much silver! This indicates that a layer of silver is underneath. File and test again!

High nickel content is more common with white gold and perhaps a watch manufacturer wants an alloy blend for whiter color however, ANYTHING that is out of the ordinary is an indicator for you to file deeper and test again.
