Based on my analysis, I predict the final polished diamond will likely weigh between 16 and 18 carats to surpass existing records for blue diamonds.Â
Looking at the image of this rough, the color distribution appears uneven, so experts will search for the “sweet spot” of the crystal to maximize the blue hue. Unlike white diamonds, which are cut to be bright, fancy color diamonds are cut to trap and intensify color. Deep pavilion facets, common in cushion and radiant cuts, allow light to bounce around inside the stone longer, making the blue appear more “Vivid.” To predict the cut of such a stone, you must analyze it from many different angles: Which cut will produce the better color outcome? Is there enough depth for a certain shape? What will bring the most value?Â
It is not only up to machines and lasers to determine the best outcome, it takes immense human knowledge and experience in fancy colors to reach these conclusions. While I can predict a certain result, no one can be sure of anything without holding the stone and examining it from all sides. The marks I made on the image of this diamond represent only my personal reflections, as the exact dimensions, the location of inclusions, and the saturation points can only be confirmed in person. From my observation of the rough online, my first choice would be a Cushion cut with a deep pavilion for better color saturation, or a Pear shape for better weight retention due to the natural outline of the rough. Most likely, it will be a modified cut. As a team of master cutters spends the next months mapping every millimeter, the final arrangement of each facet will be designed to ensure the light reflects in a way that makes the blue pop while achieving the best weight retention and the highest value possible.
