(Previously Stitch & Shutter) I started Dichotomie Studio (Previously Stitch & Shutter) as a sort of New Year's Resolution for 2013. I had recently moved from Pennsylvania to Colorado after graduating college and I desperately needed to get back to constantly creating. I have always had the desire to work with every medium that I could possibly get my hands on and I fell in love with leather work
in mid 2014 when I was asked to create a custom baldric. Since then, I have continued to focus on working with leather and am enjoying the endless projects one can create with the material. I truly love the timelessness and durability of leather. I particularly love things that force me to slow down a bit, things that take a great amount of patience and attention to detail. Leather work seems to offer this in many ways. My 'cutout' pieces, a bit of a staple of Dichotomie, play off of my art mantra- "a delicate strength." This has been a constant theme that pops up in my work and I apply it to my leather collection by creating these abstract, hand cut pieces that combine fine, delicate lines with the strength of leather. All items in my shop are handmade by me, Megan, from start to finish in Denver, CO USA. I use vegetable tanned cowhide leather of varying weights for my products. The leather is then cut, dyed, stitched, edges beveled and burnished with beeswax from my father's bees. Everything is done entirely by hand. My goal with the goods I offer is to combine traditional craftsmanship with modern yet timeless designs. Thank you for visiting Dichotomie!
