Templin Family Brewing sits in an old auto repair shop in Salt Lake City’s Granary District.

Kevin Templin showed up in Utah decades ago chasing snow, spent years brewing for other people, then built his own place with his family.

45 days until the Bluebird Express starts spinning again. That's the six person bubble lift that runs you straight to the 3,600 foot summit at Mount Snow and right now it's just sitting there waiting.

West Dover is in the quiet stretch between leaf peepers and lift lines. Nights are getting cold enough that you start checking the forecast for snowmaking temps.

Projected opening is November 21. Snowmaking usually decides whether it comes sooner.

October is here. And the mountain is getting serious.

The first real snowfall on the high peaks. The resorts publishing opening day targets. The air in a mountain town in October that has no equivalent anywhere else — cold enough to mean business, clear enough to see everything.

All About Après exists for this moment.

Park City has no shortage of places to drink after a day on the mountain.

Alpine Distilling is the one that actually belongs there.

Founded in 2016 by Rob and Sara Sergent — Park City locals who built something that reflects the mountain community they live in rather than the tourist economy they could have chased. Sara is the most decorated botanical distiller in the country. Her Park City Gin won Gin of the Year in London. Best in Show in Las Vegas. Four times named Top Gin Distillery by USA Today. Rob's Utah Straight Bourbon took Platinum at the TAG Global Spirit Awards.

These are not participation trophies. This is a serious operation running out of a ski town off Main Street.

The leaves are turning. The lessons don't. ↓

September is the month where everything I am shows up at once.

The teacher three weeks into year 24 with the same first-week energy that never fully goes away.

The coach back on the court where the athletes who showed up daily all summer reveal themselves in the first week of practice. You can see it immediately. The ones who put in the quiet work — 15 minutes or an hour, whether anyone was watching or not — carry themselves differently.

The trainer in the gym where September is always the most honest month. The work from June and July is either in the bank or it isn't.

And the person checking mountain reports on a Friday morning who felt something shift this week when the first high-elevation snowfall showed up in the forecast.

The mountain doesn't reward inconsistency. Neither does the court. Neither does the classroom.

The weekend is earned. Not because the week was perfect. Because it was consistent.

That's the whole lesson. From the barbell, the court, the classroom, and the mountain.

Show up daily. Whatever version of daily you have available.
