Retuned Jewelry

Retuned Jewelry Jewelry hand made from repurposed, used guitar and bass strings. My husband and I have been avid music fans for many years.

We love going to live shows whether it’s well known bands or the up-and-comers. We have been fortunate to meet several bands and become friends with many wonderful artists. Making jewelry from used guitar strings gives us another connection to the music and artists we love. Because of the various alloys used to make guitar strings, they are extremely difficult to recycle. At least 700 tons of stri

ngs end up in the dump every year. All of our jewelry is made from repurposed, used guitar strings. We work with local music shops and musicians to collect used strings that would have otherwise been thrown away.

One of our longtime supporters checked out the exhibit at the The Metropolitan Museum of Art and then stopped by the gift shop where you’ll find some Retuned bracelets available to purchase. Thanks for the pics, 603Melody!

As many of you know, every year we make and donate a few pieces for the Blue Star Connection fundraiser at Blues From The Top. This year, we are donating four bracelets. We made two bracelets from Kenny Wayne Shepherd’s used strings. We made the other two bracelets from a combination of Danielle Nicole and Brandon Miller’s used strings.

100% of the proceeds will go to Blue Star Connection and the amazing work they do. 🙏🏼

We are currently on a trip to Salt Lake City for the Utah Blues Festival. We booked a place to stay through Airbnb, as we do a dozen or more times every year. The reservation was set to begin June 11th. We made the reservation on April 11th. During our 8 hour drive to Salt Lake City on June 11th, we received a text message from Airbnb stating that our reservation was cancelled. We also received an email from Airbnb stating:

“For same-day reservations, Airbnb is required to do an additional account review before we can process payment.

Since we can not conduct this review before your reservation begins, we've canceled this reservation.”

This was NOT a same day reservation. Also, this reservation was already paid for and no additional payment needed to be processed. We contacted Airbnb support while we were driving and explained the situation. We were told they needed to look into the issue further and call us back.

We never received a call and had to make alternative lodging arrangements. We did receive an email from support at 2:42 am. 2:42 AM!!! Support offered to help us with rebooking. At 2:42 am?

Airbnb erroneously canceled a reservation we made two months in advance hours before we were set to check in. Then, they left us without a place to stay for the night, let alone the entirety of our trip.

Needless to say, we are NOT happy…

Beginning today, The Metropolitan Museum of Art, New York has a new exhibit called Musical Bodies which explores the relationship between musical instruments and the body. We are humbled that they contacted us to include Retuned in the Met Store during this exhibit. We’re always honored when bands and artists stop by the booth at music festivals to pick up a few pieces. Now this, too, is a pretty big honor. To think we make something cool enough for artists such as Dan Donegan of Disturbed to wear, and yet elegant enough for The Met is pretty amazing. Not bad for a wife and husband hand making jewelry from used guitar strings! 🙏🏼

More about the exhibit:
Musical Bodies is the first major exhibition to explore the relationship between musical instruments and the body by bringing together some 130 instruments, paintings, sculptures, drawings, and more to illuminate how we express who we are, what we value, and what we believe. With works from The Met collection and institutions and collectors around the world, the exhibition explores 4,000 years of art and music history, from ancient Egyptian rattles and musical masterpieces by Titian and Degas to instrument-inspired apparel and one of Prince’s most notable guitars. Musical Bodies will resonate with visitors of all ages, whether you are a musician, a devoted listener, or simply curious about human expression.

Sean got a facelift! No, not . He’s already pretty enough… 😉
We decided it was time to give our Sean Bass String Bracelet a fresh, updated look. Made from a combination of used bass E strings and guitar D strings, Sean now has a cleaner, sleeker look.
