Hey, friends! I know I'm not on here much these days but I wanted to update you all on something I've been working on since last year. Health challenges postponed getting started but now, it's all moving forward!

I will be instructing a skills focused beginner silversmithing class at The Morean starting in Nov. It will be held on Mon nights from 4-8 pm. and is 6 wks long. I absolutely plan to keep doing the class through more sessions and maybe even expand to provide an intermediate course in the future. So, keep a lookout!

It's taken me several days to recover and fully process last Friday's We the People event at Brenda McMahon Gallery
Brenda McMahon made the call, and the artists answered!

I was moved to tears multiple times by the depth and meaning behind this collective body of work. The room was humming like a beehive, a unified vibration of shared experience and contemplation.

I'm incredibly honored and still a bit overwhelmed to have received the distinction for 'Most Outstanding Art Piece' among such a powerful collection. My deepest gratitude goes to the judge for this incredible recognition. I'm truly honored and deeply grateful to Maggie Duffy for seeing something special in my work.
And of course, a huge thank you again to Brenda McMahon, whose vision and dedication brought this essential exhibition to life.

Congratulations to Judith Villavisanis for her recognition as 'This cannot be ignored' with her piece, 'The Would-be King Holds Court,' and to Heather Rippert for her distinction as 'Smallest work with the biggest impact' for her 'Free the Uterus' piece.

This event truly underscored the profound importance of art in bringing people together, especially for the difficult but necessary conversations. In a world that often feels fractured, art provides a unique space for bridging gaps and reclaiming our shared humanity. It allows us to connect on a deeper level, to find common ground, and to remember the inherent connection that binds us all.

"We the People" was a powerful testament to the idea that art isn't just about aesthetics; it's a vital tool for fostering understanding, empathy, and meaningful dialogue. It's also a crucial platform for standing up against injustice in any space, reminding us of our collective responsibility to speak truth and and advocate for what's right.

I'm still reflecting on the impact of the evening, and I'm so grateful to have been a part of it. What a powerful reminder of art's ability to move, unite, and inspire change.

The exhibit will remain on display until August 30th. I do hope that you will go see what the people have to say. Also, follow Brenda McMahon Gallery to keep up with all the upcoming events that are so brilliantly woven into this theme.

EDIT: Be sure to cast your vote for "People's Choice'. Voting is up at the galley until July 18th.

"Liberty's Edge"

This sterling silver guillotine, inscribed with "eat the rich" on its blade, is my direct commentary on democracy and economic disparity
The guillotine, a symbol of revolutionary upheaval, here represents the profound frustrations that can simmer beneath a seemingly stable society when wealth inequality becomes extreme
By putting "eat the rich" on its blade, I'm highlighting the raw sentiment of class struggle and asking: does our democracy truly serve all, or does it risk entrenching privilege to the point of social breaking?
This piece urges reflection on the fragility of our social contracts and the ongoing fight for true equity within a democratic framework.
She was a real challenge and I had a lot of fun engineering this piece

✨New Crone alert✨
This is Maya
✨ Still I Rise ✨
By Maya Angelou
You may write me down in history
With your bitter, twisted lies,
You may trod me in the very dirt
But still, like dust, I'll rise.

Does my sassiness upset you?
Why are you beset with gloom?
’Cause I walk like I've got oil wells
Pumping in my living room.

Just like moons and like suns,
With the certainty of tides,
Just like hopes springing high,
Still I'll rise.

Did you want to see me broken?
Bowed head and lowered eyes?
Shoulders falling down like teardrops,
Weakened by my soulful cries?

Does my haughtiness offend you?
Don't you take it awful hard
’Cause I laugh like I've got gold mines
Diggin’ in my own backyard.

You may shoot me with your words,
You may cut me with your eyes,
You may kill me with your hatefulness,
But still, like air, I’ll rise.

Does my sexiness upset you?
Does it come as a surprise
That I dance like I've got diamonds
At the meeting of my thighs?

Out of the huts of history’s shame
I rise
Up from a past that’s rooted in pain
I rise
I'm a black ocean, leaping and wide,
Welling and swelling I bear in the tide.

Leaving behind nights of terror and fear
I rise
Into a daybreak that’s wondrously clear
I rise
Bringing the gifts that my ancestors gave,
I am the dream and the hope of the slave.
I rise
I rise
I rise.
