Made it. 🙏🏾💪🏾🙏🏾.
This by far was the toughest one of all 9 Houston Aramco Half Marathons I have done. (The 1st one was a close 2nd 😅)
Transparency: I ran all the way through Mile 9 and then my glutes and hamstrings that I have been training faithfully all year long for bodybuilding said, “Now Dawn… you tried it”. 👀😅. At mile 10 I started wondering why I didn’t tap out when I picked up the race packet.
And THEN, randomly, of all of the THOUSANDS of people out there, I saw a lady that I met Friday when I was volunteering (Ms. Kim) and she said she’d really been hoping to see me again… AND SHE DID! We hugged and exchanged numbers. It was so encouraging to see her!
Then I saw some little girls that looked like me COMPLETELY light up when they saw me and it clicked that… we legit never know WHO is watching us, or WHO we may be encouraging from just showing up and running the race. 🙏🏾
Now.. I still took a break and walked after I was out of their eyesight because my glutes and hammies started cursing at that point. 😅
Outcome: I finished it! I didn’t quit. (Damn sure thought about it but didn’t). I KEPT going. Just like in life and fitness. The goal setting was easy. Starting was scary. FOCUSING my thoughts on the end result when it got tough was HARD. Again, the mind can carry the body when the familiarity and comfort of quitting takes over. I’m all too familiar with what that looks like as well. 🙋🏾♀️ And lastly, uderstanding that just bc I stopped or had to walk, didn’t mean I was failing, because I was STILL moving FORWARD. 🙌🏾
Big shout out to .sweetobsession for sending a celebration box of deliciousness over to our house post race (it was everything). Shoutout to for supporting this run and being encouraging at the end when it got rough. To for volunteering and being encouraging as always. And to for hosting a great and well organized run. 🏃🏾♀️
Yes, I am sore, but I’m happy to participate in Houston’s biggest charitable event of the year. Sooo many Houston charities benefit from this run. Goal 1 ✅
Now on to a few more for 2022 🙏🏾🙌🏾💪🏾
