Establish “The Poseidon” as a community-recognized nickname for the entire lineage of Rolex Submariner Date watches featuring a solid 18K yellow-gold case and bracelet, blue dial, and matching blue bezel. (adding a recognizable nickname much like others in the Rolex lineup)
Not just your 116618LB. Every qualifying generation, vintage through current production.
This gives us something considerably stronger than a nickname for one watch: a historical lineage, a recognizable visual identity, and a campaign that other Rolex owners can participate in.
1. THE OFFICIAL POSEIDON REFERENCE FAMILY
Research confirms five core reference generations spanning more than half a century. Production years are approximate, particularly for vintage references.
1. Ref. 1680/8
Circa 1969–1979 · First generation
The original 18K yellow-gold Submariner Date. Plexiglass crystal, distinctive ni**le markers and aluminum bezel. Blue configurations established the aesthetic that defines the Poseidon lineage.
2. Ref. 16808
Circa 1979–1988 · Second generation
The transitional gold Submariner, with sapphire crystal, quickset date, and caliber 3035. Available with early ni**le dials and later conventional hour markers.
3. Ref. 16618 / 16618LB
Circa 1988–2008/2010 · Third generation
The classic five-digit gold Submariner. Caliber 3135, sapphire crystal, blue aluminum bezel and traditional 40 mm case proportions.
4. Ref. 116618LB
Circa 2008–2020 · Fourth generation
Your watch's generation. The 40 mm Super Case, blue Cerachrom bezel, caliber 3135, and substantially modernized bracelet and clasp. Includes flat-blue and sunburst-blue dial executions.
5. Ref. 126618LB
2020–present · Fifth generation
The current 41 mm Submariner Date, featuring the caliber 3235, approximately 70-hour power reserve, revised case proportions and royal blue dial.
Naming rule: A watch qualifies as a Poseidon when it is an original Rolex yellow-gold Submariner Date in the factory blue-dial/blue-bezel configuration. That excludes two-tone Bluesy references 16803, 16613, 116613LB and 126613LB, the white-gold Smurf, black-dial gold Subs, and aftermarket color conversions.
For the earlier references, collectors may use the base numbers 1680/8, 16808 and 16618 without an LB suffix, so the actual dial/bezel configuration must be verified.
