Atargatis
This necklace is dedicated to an ancient Syrian goddess, she is the Great Mother, a fertility Goddess of the Earth and Water.
Often depicted as the original mermaid, she is believed to have been the direct inspiration for the Greek goddess, Aphrodite.
Atargatis was depicted with a belt, like Aphrodite's Cestus, that harnessed the power of passion, desire and love and made her irresistible to anyone, mortal or immortal, when she wore it.
(My favourite part)
The fish at Atargatis's temple were hand fed by the priestesses and ornamented with jewelry from their lips and gills; knew their names, would come when called and would snuggle up to people, these fish were never to be eaten unless as part of a ritual of eating the Goddess herself as sacrament.

As everyone should know that I love mythology and I love reading about different folklore, it's my favourite topic to read and talk about!
Enjoy!
