Merāki by Marlena Jewelry Designer & Instructor Meraki means: to do something with soul, creativity or love, leaving a piece of yourself into what you do.

My name is Marlena, owner and artist of Meraki. I was born with an imaginative creative spirit. I have always been inspired to create with my hands, heart and mind. I have spent more than half my life designing jewelry, teaching classes, trunk shows, home/birthday parties, participating in community events; Gowns for Prom and donating to local organizations/charities. My inspiration comes from nat

ure, my husband (my muse), family, friends, people my life, memorable moments and the little critters we are lucky enough to have claimed us as their people (Bane, Makaya, Ninja, Chancellor, Karma and Battle Cat). I aspire to design one of a kind (O.O.A.K) that are made from semi-precious and precious gemstones, natural pearls, precious metals, vintage piece and upcycled treasures. Every design is made with all my heart and soul, I want each piece to feel good in your hand, please the eye and inspire your heart. My hope is that when you wear a piece of Meraki, it brings a little bit of happiness to your heart. I try to do my part to pay it forward by shopping for my supplies from small businesses, local shops and fellow artisans. After all we need to support each other. Prom is such a magical milestone, but we all know the expenses can quickly add up. Gowns for Prom helps ease that financial pressure so students can focus on celebrating one of the most special moments of their high school years. Walking through the racks of gowns feels like stepping into a sea of color and possibility. ✨

Gowns for Prom is such a beautiful and meaningful program that helps students throughout our community feel confident and celebrated. After each young lady “says YES to her prom dress,” there is a wide selection of jewelry and accessories, along with a vast array of shoes, handbags, shawls, and hand-painted press-on nails to help complete the perfect prom look.

As a longtime collaborator with for the past 17 years providing a wide range of jewelry and accessories. This program is deeply personal and holds a very special place in my heart. I first joined when the event in 2009 when is was held at Shea’s Performing Arts Center and later at the Buffalo Convention Center. Now, Gowns for Prom has a new permanent home at 2312 Elmwood Avenue, designed with a welcoming boutique feel — complete with fitting rooms, seating for guests, jewelry, sashes, shoes, purses and most importantly, hundreds of gowns for students to choose from.

I am a transformational artist who loves giving new life to forgotten pieces. I create jewelry from almost anything. Many of my pieces are made from gently used jewelry, vintage pieces that have been donated, or items I have personally sourced from boutiques, thrift stores, and estate sales.

My goal is to help complete prom looks for students, the smallest details can help someone feel confident, beautiful, and ready for one of the most memorable nights of their life.

The program will run Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Saturdays from March 3 through April 11, giving students the opportunity to schedule appointments at www.gownsforprom.com and find the dress of their dreams.
