connecting, healing, and understanding:
A New Chapter: Holding On, Letting Go, and Finding My New Norm
There comes a time in life when the heart, mind, and soul demand a pause — a moment to recover, to rethink, and to gently shift the path forward. I’ve reached that place.
Not long ago, I experienced one of life’s greatest joys — the wedding of my beloved son to an extraordinary woman: radiant, intelligent, and deeply rooted in culture. She is his perfect complement — the yin to his yang — and witnessing their union was nothing short of divine.
But joy was quickly followed by sorrow.
Shortly after the celebration, the Queen — my mother, my rock, my mentor — transitioned. Her passing left me hollow, adrift, and at a loss for words. The very next day, my father’s sister passed. Two days later, his brother. As I tried to find footing amidst the grief, more pain arrived — the heartbreaking loss of a close friend’s son.
I journeyed back to Africa, grieving and preparing for my son to give his father the gift of life — a kidney. But life had another plan. He too transitioned, far too soon, on April 28th. We celebrated his life over three days: August 7th, 9th, and 10th. Because some souls deserve more than just a moment of remembrance — they deserve a ceremony of honor.
Now, I find myself in the quiet after the storm. Surrounded by a lifelong friend, fresh air, flowers in bloom, clean food, and a simpler life — for now.
I’m learning how to hold up and hold on…
To laugh through tears, cry without shame, and embrace the unknown.
To grieve and grow.
To regroup, reflect, and gently begin again.
This is the journey toward my new norm — not with certainty, but with courage.
If you’re navigating a storm of your own, know this: you’re not alone. There is light after loss, even if it flickers slowly into view.
With love, resilience, and a heart still healing…
💛
