My 250-year old Georgian-era diamond ring with a green fluorescent central diamond 💚
I thought this would be a good follow up to the green fluorescent diamond I have been discussing the past few days. This one doesn't glow as brightly but the glow is a beautiful green. I actually didn't even check with a blacklight when I bought this, I was just so excited to find it as it is.
Dated c.1780, it is 18k yellow gold with sterling silver on top, as was common for Georgian rings. 82 total mine cut diamonds, all foil backed. Georgian diamonds are usually foil-backed so they would look more beautiful in candlelight.
It has an unusual articulated band which is original to the ring. There are tiny diamonds on the articulated shank. What is also interesting is that the ring is a size 10 and because of the shank it has never been resized, and most people did not have such large fingers 250 years ago. Either it was made as an arthritic shank, or it was made to fit over a glove.
This is a totally natural diamond, not enhanced like the other. Some diamonds glow like this because they were exposed to radiation underground and it changed their crystalline structure to produce a glow. That is my best understanding of how it works anyway.
