Passover, one of my most favorite holidays in the Jewish culture, commemorates the Hebrews liberation from slavery in Egypt to freedom and to remind us to never harshly mistreat others.
We have always celebrated Passover with our family and close friends each year.
The story of Passover is told in the Haggadah, using special foods as symbols on a Seder plate and drinking wine (lots of wine) during the Seder meal. During the holiday, one of the foods we eat is called Matzoh which is unleavened bread, symbolic of leaving Egypt too suddenly to wait for the bread to rise.
Our first Passover Seder with our little girl was extra special, as it was her first time seeing these Jewish traditions. Now with our second daughter, we get to share with her as well. Each year they will understand more and more what this holiday is about and will get to participate in all of the traditions that go along with it. My youngest, will most likely be learning and asking the Four Questions, which is always done by the youngest person at the Seder!

What are some childhood festival memories you still hold on to?

Diwali has always been one of my favorite festivals while growing up. For years I had a fixed routine on Diwali day: Wake up, finish breakfast of yummy traditional dishes followed by marigold flowers shopping with dad. Once I had bought all decorations, I would then spend hours decorating our house to make sure Goddess Laxmi felt welcomed.

When Samaira was born, we realized we would love to pass these traditions. We were excited to introduce her to these activities and she was equally excited to create memories of her own.
