Portrait Jewels: Opulence & Intimacy from the Medici to the Romanovs by Diana Scarisbrick is filled with beautiful photographs and fascinating stories behind some remarkable portrait jewels.

What I loved most was learning about the people represented in these pieces and the meaning the jewels once carried. They weren’t simply decorative… they preserved a face, a relationship, and a piece of history. 💕

🍀 A little luck… with a lot of jewelry history. 🩷

Krementz & Co. was one of Newark, New Jersey’s historic jewelry manufacturers, with roots going back to the 19th century. The company became known for beautifully made jewelry and produced everything from everyday pieces to fine gold jewelry. Krementz pieces from the turn of the century could feature the delicate handwork and nature-inspired designs we associate with the period.

This four-leaf clover brooch feels especially sweet to me—a timeless symbol of good luck, finished with a little diamond sparkling at its center. ✨🍀

Jewelry tells the story of the world around it. 🩷

During World War II, precious metals became strategic materials and their use in jewelry was restricted. Jewelers had to adapt, and palladium became one of the white metals used as an alternative. 🤍

It gave jewelers a way to continue creating beautiful white-metal jewelry during a time when materials were limited and the industry was changing.

That’s one of my favorite things about vintage jewelry… sometimes the metal itself can tell us something about the time in which a piece was made. 🩷

The tiny details, hand craftsmanship, old techniques, and designs that have somehow survived generations. It’s one of the reasons I fell in love with antique & vintage jewelry in the first place. ✨

Radiance and Reverie: Jewels from the Collection of Neil Lane is filled with big, beautiful photographs… but it’s the stories behind the jewels that I found most fascinating.

There’s so much history throughout the book, including the glamorous Hollywood history connected to many of the pieces. I loved learning where the jewels had been, who once wore them, and the stories they carried before becoming part of Neil Lane’s collection. ✨
