Practical Solidarity Practical Solidarity is a bi-weekly letter writing social in Los Angeles to write letters to political prisoners.

If you've been meaning to get involved with this practical act of solidarity with those behind bars, this is your chance to get together with others on the 3rd Sundays of the month in the Michaeltorena Elementary & Community Garden in Silver Lake and the 1st Monday nights of the
month at Stories Books & Cafe in Echo Park. Stamps and writing supplies will be provided along with a list of current p

Big news! Alberto Patishtan, an indigenous teacher from Chiapas who has been unjustly imprisoned for over 13 years for the murder of 7 policemen, will be pardoned by Mexican President Enrique Peña Nieto!

MEXICO CITY -- Mexican President Enrique Pe ñ a Nieto announced Wednesday that he would pardon an indigenous teacher who has spent 13 years in prison after being convicted of participating in the murder of seven police officers.

Distributed leaflets today for Practical Solidarity at the Echo Park community gathering against the proposed gang injunction (court hearing August 21). Great energy (75+ people) and a true coming together of neighbors and allies - next meeting is Saturday 7/27 at 2 PM at the picnic tables on the north end of the park.

In Sunday's letter writing social we'll also hear from folks from the Silver Lake Neighborhood Assembly who are engaged in a solidarity 'rolling hunger strike' in support of the California prison hunger strike. We'll also be writing letters to the hunger strike leadership - see names and addresses below. WHAT YOU CAN DO TO HELP STOP THE TORTURE:
Tell the Pelican Bay State Prison (PBSP) authorities to return the 14 prisoner Representatives to their cells. (Their names and prison numbers are below)
Return all their property, especially the legal documents guards have confiscated.
Lift the ban on their attorney, Marilyn McMahon, so that she can again access her clients.
Medically monitor the men to ensure that the prison has not destroyed their health!
