I've called Silver Lake "home" a couple of times, living on Micheltorena Street from 1987 until 1992, and on Occidental Blvd. between 2002 and 2007, during which time we were actively engaged in the community. I had the pleasure of serving on the first Silver Lake Neighborhood Council, as Region 1 Representative and Fouunder of the Silver Lake Beautification Committee. I am especially proud of the
many accomplishments of the committee; the highly-successful "Art Cans" project, the on-going efforts to bring more green space to the community, planting dozens of flower-bearing trees along Silver Lake's commercial corridors and several community-wide "beautifucation days" co-sponsored with the Silver Lake Improvement Assn. During my time in Silver Lake, I also started a community website, "The Silver Lake News" to keep the community informed on neighborhood events. The site has garnered over 4 million hits since its founding in March 2002. (The site is currently ranked 740,101 world-wide and 270,085th in the U.S. among all websites and receives approximately 35,000 hits per week!) The popularity of the site is the primary reason that Allison Cohen, Editor of the "Los Feliz Ledger" invited me to become "Silver Lake Correspondent" for the Ledger, writing a regular column about Silver Lake every month since 2003. Even though we don't live in Silver Lake any more, I want to stay in touch with our many friends in the community! Please visit "The Sillver Lake News" and feel free to SELF POST any news item, calendar event, classified ad, etc. I plan to use this FACEBOOK page to augment the website and reach a wider audience! REMEMBER: Posting your event or classified ad on the site is always FREE and helps keep everyone informed!
