Here’s a classic moment in music history, Punk meets Hip Hop! Joe Strummer of The Clash and a 22-year-old Kurtis Blow, both rocking revolutionary energy in their own lanes. Two pioneers who pushed boundaries and brought powerful messages to the mic. Unity in the culture before “genre” drew the lines.

RIP Joe Strummer, your voice still echoes in the fight for justice.

Here’s a throwback pic from 1980, a pivotal year not just for me but for Hip Hop history. This marks the 45th Anniversary of “The Breaks,” the first certified gold record in Rap music, a milestone that helped pave the way for future generations of artists.

Many may not know that “The Breaks” was created as an ode to the B-Boys. To give them a track filled with breakbeats they could truly get down to. It was a tribute to the Breakdancers, the heartbeat of the culture, who turned the floor into their stage. Big shout of love to the B-boys and B-girls all around the world.

To the right in the photo is my dear friend Sal Abbatiello, the legendary owner of the iconic Disco Fever nightclub in the Bronx, a true sanctuary for Hip-Hop culture. Sal, thank you for believing in the movement from the beginning and opening your doors to the pioneers when the world still wasn’t sure what Hip-Hop would become.

I’m forever grateful for your love, support, and unwavering commitment to this culture. That gold plaque was not just mine; it’s yours and Hip Hop’s!

Let’s continue to celebrate the roots and rise of Hip Hop! Say Happy Anniversary Hip Hop!

Grace and peace, Testimony Announcement!

We rejoice and give glory to God as we celebrate a powerful transformation; Troy Harewood (”Zulu King Troy”), Co- Exrcutive Director of the UK Hip Hop Museum, has come to Christ! This moment marks a new beginning, a divine awakening, and the start of a sacred journey of faith, purpose, and redemption.

As it says in 2 Corinthians 5:17, “Therefore, if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature: old things are passed away; behold, all things are become new.”

Welcome to the Kingdom, Troy. Heaven rejoices, and so do we. Someone say Amen🙏🏾

Palm Sunday is all about a triumphant entrance, the people lifting up their voices, and the world taking notice of what was about to unfold. Jesus rode into Jerusalem on a humble donkey, but the energy was electric. The streets were alive, filled with anticipation. Imagine it like the ultimate street anthem being played at the highest volume, the crowd was hyped, waving palm branches like they were the hottest new dance moves, all in recognition of the King who was about to shift the culture forever.

It’s like the ultimate Hip Hop parade, where the people, diverse, united by their belief. Christians celebrate this leader who’s been dropping knowledge, challenging the status quo, and preaching a message that resonates deep within the soul. They laid their coats down like a red carpet, the equivalent of the freshest kicks and gear being dropped to set the stage for a legendary figure. They weren’t just celebrating a man; they were celebrating a movement, a cultural shift, a revolution.

Jesus entered in peace, not flexing in riches or power but bringing a message of love, humility, and salvation. It’s a reminder for us in the Hip Hop world: true influence doesn’t come from the flashiest chains or the loudest beats, but from staying true to the message and the people. Just like Jesus, the most impactful movements in Hip Hop start with the culture, humble, raw, and real, and eventually the world can’t ignore it. The palms they waved back then were symbols of victory, but not the victory of the rich and powerful. It was the victory of a King who didn’t need the world’s validation. It’s the same energy that pulses through Hip Hop: grassroots, real, and revolutionary.

Palm Sunday isn’t just a moment in history, it’s a spiritual anthem for us today. It speaks to the humble beginnings that lead to cultural shifts, the perseverance that keeps the faith alive, and the message that even when the world doesn’t understand, the movement is still marching forward. Just like Hip Hop, Jesus’ entry was the beginning of something monumental that would echo throughout history. Let’s keep that energy alive, spreading peace and truth in every verse and every movement. Amen🙏🏾
