2016 Trends & Memories
2016 was a year full of travel, creativity, and heart. I was a stay-at-home mom, and all of my kids still lived under our roof. I miss that season so much. I had a bob haircut then, funny how some things always come full circle (maybe bangs are next).
My daughter and I bonded deeply over our shared love of music. Imagine Dragons and Twenty One Pilots were everything to us. I didnât dye my hair yet, but I did start seeing the world a little more clearly. I got my first pair of glasses.
One of the most meaningful things we did was start an open-air photo booth to raise money for TRF. Every dollar went toward helping families with a child battling cancer. After losing my nephew, we needed a way to turn grief into something that helped others. The project took us to many places. It was a lot of work, but also incredibly rewarding.
Music gave us joy when we needed it most. My daughter and I traveled to Vancouver to see Twenty One Pilots. We waited in the cold for eight hours just to be up front. She ended up on stage with the band, and it will forever be our favorite concert experience.
My husband and I took a couple of trips tooâMaui and Chicago. We were working on our marriage. Things were rocky at times, especially with our youngest son being sick so often, which added extra stress. (He had some autoimmune problems) But we learned that marriage is something you work at continually, and that work is worth it.
There were birthdaysâŚlots of them. All three of my kids were born in the same week, with two sharing the same birthday (not twins!). Halloween always seemed to be especially fun in our house.
GIFs were a big trend then, thus the infamous pool pic. I stayed creative, as always. I made hair bows for my daughterâs volleyball team, also made other bows and sold them on Etsy, created jewelry, and dabbled in photography. I was a team mom for my daughterâs volleyball team and a room mom for my youngest son.
All in all, 2016 was a really great yearâŚfull, meaningful, creative, and unforgettable. I would live it again in a heartbeat! #2016
