The A-11 is often called “the watch that won the war." Introduced during World War II, it was the U.S. military's standard wristwatch for pilots, navigators, and other service members. Built by American manufacturers to a common military specification, the A-11 emphasized accuracy, reliability, and legibility above all else.
Its simple black dial, bold numbers, luminous hands, and no-nonsense design have made it one of the most influential military watches ever produced. More than 80 years later, its timeless appearance continues to inspire watchmakers and enthusiasts alike.
With that history in mind, I wanted to create a modern mechanical watch that pays tribute to the A-11 while adding my own interpretation. The Fudella Fine Jewelry A-11 has a few improvements, including a self-winding movement, a date window, dark case for tactical considerations, and lume that isn’t radioactive (the original A-11 used radium to make the face and hands glow).
Expect to pay upwards of $1500 for a really nice original. I plan on keeping this watch for myself but will happily make more for those interested. $280
