"Caning" is a process that ceramic and clay artists use to create graphics, designs, and intricate images.
Much like how taffy is in candy making, I start with a large version of what I will end up producing. However, taffy gets its shape from being pulled; with clay, we achieve accurate shapes with compression.
Ive been taking a small break from creating rings and I fell back into creating beads and bracelets. I was inspired to make these handmade Sleep Token beads, because of another band called Grateful Dead. The band had merchandised a few hundred "Bear cane Bracelets" back in the 1980's, and i was blown away by the level of detail, as well as the quality of the bead itself.
So here you are. I plan to make a few of these bracelets. This cane took me about 16 hours to make, and I can make roughly 120 beads from it. I plan to sell most of these as bracelets
Since the process takes a significant amount of time to create the bracelet, I will be pricing them higher to compensate for my time given.
" The process involves creating the shapes in the cane, compressing it down to the bead size without stretching, measuring/cutting, creating the bead holes which are then trimmed to create a smooth finish, then firing in the oven at 275°F for 40 minutes. Cool the beads. I string them on guitar strings, and I apply a thin UV resin on the string, Cure, and then I hang each string near my window for a hard cure. "
After this process is done, I then string the beads up, knot it, and attach to the display, where i then sell it to you all :)
I put A LOT OF WORK INTO THESE. SEVERAL DAYS OF WORK. And I love every second of it!
