This little mosaic heart which I made for my Mom, started with a handful of tiny red shards and a reminder that progress—whether in art or life—is built one piece at a time.

The mirror mosaic pumpkin was cute…but that plastic stem was giving me absolutely nothing. 😂🎃

So I went outside, grabbed a couple of real oak branches, and gave these pumpkins a few handmade upgrades instead.

A mosaic leaf, a little wire, and suddenly the kit pumpkin feels a whole lot more custom.

No oak tree? No problem. Try a ceramic leaf, fabric leaf, buttons, beads, glitter, or even a simple ribbon around the stem.

Sometimes it's the tiny details that make a project look handmade instead of straight out of the box. ✨

Every Etsy order still makes me do a little happy dance. ❤️

And after more than 28 years of making mosaics, I hope that never changes.

There's something special about spending hours creating something, pouring a little piece of yourself into it, and then discovering that someone else sees something special in it, too.

With the holidays approaching, I'm hoping for a wonderful Q4 for my creative business...and cheering on all the other artists, makers, and small business owners doing the same.

The substrate for this mosaic pumpkin came from…my baking supplies. 😂🎃

Yep. A silicone cupcake mold.

I filled the two halves with thinset mortar, let them cure, popped them out, joined them together, and then turned the whole thing into a mosaic pumpkin using vitreous glass tile, stained glass, and some green glass scraps from my cut-offs.

Proof that sometimes the best mosaic substrate is hiding in the most unexpected place. 👀

And yes, I left it ungrouted. I think it works!

Apparently, my solution to having a few empty glass yogurt pots was to turn them into a LIGHT-UP HALLOWEEN MOSAIC TOTEM POLE. 😂👻

Each character is made from a glass yogurt pot, covered in stained glass mosaic and lit from the inside with a little battery-operated votive.

Because obviously that’s what normal people do with their yogurt containers. 🤣

And honestly? I regret nothing.

There are two kinds of people making handmade Christmas gifts:

The ones who finish early…

And the ones who are still adding “just one more little detail” on December 23rd. 😂🎄

I say this with love, because finishing is its own stage of the creative process.

The design is done. The mosaic is assembled. You're SO CLOSE.

But then there's the back to finish, the edges to tidy, the signature, the hanger…

And suddenly, your finished project isn't quite finished. 😂

That's why October's ornament-making assignment is simple: finish what you've already started before adding more to the pile.

And if your original plan needs adjusting? Adjust it! Handmade gifts should bring joy, not a holiday-related stress spiral. ❤️

Thinking about making a Halloween mosaic? 🎃👻

Whether it’s a pumpkin, a spooky glass-on-glass scene, or something completely off the wall, start with a substrate sturdy enough to handle whatever you want to throw at it.

Then comes the fun part: pulling together your materials. Stained glass, tile, gems, found objects…basically, if you can mosaic it, it’s fair game. 😉

And Halloween doesn’t have to mean orange + black! Purple, red, green, and other unexpected colors can give your piece a more modern feel.

And if your substrate starts out looking a little…meh? That’s where your tile work and imagination come in. A little personality can go a LONG way.

POV: You go to Boston for baseball and come home with mosaic content. 😂

Naturally, I spotted these gorgeous historic floors inside the Fairmont Copley Plaza Hotel. Opened in 1912, this Boston landmark has some seriously beautiful history underfoot.

And here's the wild part: some of the original mosaic flooring was covered up with carpet for decades before being restored and revealed again!

You know I'm always on the lookout for public mosaic art, and these floors were such a fun discovery. ❤️

Now I'm wondering what other beautiful details I've walked right past without noticing. 👀

There’s a seating area in my home where I like to change the table decor to fit the season. Here’s how I styled a mosaic pumpkin I made along with a few other items to create a complete look on the coffee table. 🎃

It’s a simple grouping but gives enough interest to keep guests visually occupied who sit there for cocktails and conversation.
