Phi Boota roota - National Percussion Fraternity Phi Boota roota is the first and largest national percussion fraternity. Phi Boota roota exists to strengthen those bonds among percussionists.

Phi Boota roota is a nationally recognized professional percussion fraternity whose purpose is to further the fraternal relationship amongst percussionists, promote and teach the art of percussion, and instill a feeling of brotherhood across the nation. Through the coordination that is required while performing with each other, percussionists tend to naturally come together and bond. In doing so, we come together to promote and teach the art of percussion to those both within and outside the organization.

Fifty years ago on this day, September 26th, 1976, the first chapter of Phi Boota roota was born courtesy of the visions of Founding Fathers Connie Sprinkle, Joe Evans, and Glen Buckalew. Since then, the fraternity has been instated at more than forty unique universities, with many still thriving to this day. What began as a simple crew enjoying a love of percussion has become a nationally recognized organization, rich in leadership development, percussion service, and excellence in musicianship.

For fifty years, we have - and always will be - serving our purpose to the fullest... “to further the fraternal relationship and serve the needs of the university percussionists; to uphold the highest standard of percussion performance in any given environment; to further the knowledge of the percussive arts, and create a broader perception of percussion throughout the community.”

While Phi Boota roota grows and changes, its brothers remain at the core fundamental of this purpose, the development of new standardizations, and the everlasting visions of our Founding Fathers. This Founder’s Day, we celebrate our brothers and friends that made us who we are, and the brothers we are today that continue to pioneer new ways to fulfill our role in the university bands and percussion programs. uniPHI 2026 is in the books! 🥁

We recently wrapped up our 2026 National Convention “UniPHI” hosted by Phi Boota roota - Beta Chapter at Stephen F. Austin University! The fraternity made tons of advancements all between amending and ratifying our governing documents, electing new brothers into our National Executive Committee, granting honorary status to Bruce Salyers, and welcoming in the new “Thunderous” Tau Kappa Chapter of Φᗺr Chapter of Phi Boota roota at Christopher Newport Univeristy!

Thank you to everyone who made this year’s event possible. Here’s to carrying the spirit of uniPHI with us throughout the year and continuing to build on the brotherhood of Phi Boota roota!

Lastly, uniPHI 2027 will be hosted by Phi Boota roota - Phi Lambda Chapter at the University of Southern Alabama in Mobile, Alabama! Let’s start the hype for uniPHI 2027!
