Random haul saved from the donation pile hopefully into the hands of little makers! If there is one thing I learned about myself while doing the Pop-up shop is I want to build community around art. Art made by many hands not just my own. A safe place to explore, learn, to try again and again. My dream: Community Arts Center here in Mount Vernon. Sunday funday Pop Up Makers Market flew by and I composed ten posts about it in mind before, during, and after but stepped away from my phone and let my senses take over. The smell of the summer rain. The chalk marks on the wet cement that had to be measured out before we all came. The bustle of the vendors unloading and setting up. The sighs and the laughter and the camaraderie found as we did so. The first person at my booth, to the last person who walked by. A wag of a tail. Bags hanging on and treasures tucked under your arms. Friends walking together, family adventures. A solo person out to enjoy the day looks up, and smiles. I met your parents, marveled at how big your kids have grown, how the days have flown by, how the season is changing. I was delighted at every conversation that happened around my art as you used your own senses and intuition around it. What attracted you, what was a crowd favorite, what finally found a home, and what barely hit my table before it found you. It takes a lot of energy. It feeds my soul. I am using too many words to try to describe it. Thank you elSage Gift Shop for curating. coordinating, and cultivating this magic. Feeling grateful 💜

Unusual forms came to life this week in the studio after a long long moment of just thinking about making. I tell almost everyone who comes to my booth that this is my rock collection just as much as a jewelry collection. Days like today when inspiration just doesn't hit I just go into my studio and push the rocks around, appreciating all the subtle nuances, textures, formations, shapes, and colors. Sometimes two or three random materials end up next to each other and that becomes the formula for a new design. Other times I go back to my trusty favorites knowing the connection I have to them will spark joy. Sourcing these treasures and turning them into wearable art is my art, and it's a practice I don't take lightly. I know inspiration is around the corner waiting for me when it is ready.
