This ring has a birthday: January 1, 1868. It’s engraved right into the gold — “L.T. Ryder, Jan 1 1868” — and it originally held three pearls in this same hand-carved gallery. Swipe through to see the transformation: those pearls have since been replaced with 0.93ct of antique old mine cut diamonds, rebuilt right into the original 156-year-old setting. Same ring. Some sales stay with you. This is one of them. 💜

A young woman came in back in December and fell in love with this necklace. She didn't take it home that day — but she thought about it for months. Last weekend she came back, and she brought her parents with her.

Her family was wonderful. We laughed, she tried it on, and when the chain was just a little short for how she envisioned wearing it, I lengthened it right here at the bench while she popped next door to Sift. When she came back, it fit perfectly — and she layered it right onto the ghost charm she picked up at Summerwind in Portsmouth, NH. Her neck mess has officially begun.

This piece is one I'm especially proud of. I selected this sapphire personally in Tucson — 1.45 carats, purplish-pink, emerald cut, completely untreated. The full bezel and paperclip chain are 14k yellow gold, designed to be effortlessly wearable and genuinely collectible.

✨ Future jewelers in the making!

We had the pleasure of spending time with YMCA campers, introducing them to the fascinating world of gold, gemstones, and jewelry making.

From designing their own pendants to learning why gold has been treasured for thousands of years and even trying their hand at panning for gold - it was wonderful to see so much curiosity, creativity, and excitement.

At Petra Star, we believe jewelry is more than something beautiful to wear. It's history, science, craftsmanship, and storytelling all woven together. Sharing that passion with the next generation was truly a joy.

A heartfelt thank you to the YMCA for welcoming us, and to all the campers who asked thoughtful questions, explored with enthusiasm, and reminded us that learning is always an adventure. 💛

Campers learned why 24K gold is soft and malleable, why most jewelry is made in 14K gold, and how gold has been treasured for thousands of years. They also designed their own pendants and discovered why recycling gold is one of the most sustainable ways to create beautiful jewelry.
