When you’re building something bootstrapped, the hardest part isn’t always the work, it’s the lack of access: fewer resources, fewer connections, fewer chances to learn from people who’ve already walked the road. I first met Carol, the founder of Makku in junior high through church. Years later, when we reconnected, she did something rare: she made time. She listened to my story, offered thoughtful feedback, and gave me the kind of constructive critique I’d been searching for.

When NUNCHI hosted its first brand event at Wolf & Badger, Carol donated Makku with no expectations—just support. Makgeolli has deep roots in Korean culture: a traditional rice wine brewed with nuruk, shared for centuries at gatherings and celebrations, carrying both history and everyday warmth. Having it at our first event felt like bringing home into the room, a way to share culture through taste, not explanation.

As a thank you, I translated Makku’s bottle into a metal keepsake. The result was a 3D keychain, about 1.5” tall, cast in 925 sterling silver: a blend of tradition and contemporary life.

Representation looks like this.

Congratulations to Korean American author Jessica Choe on the launch of her debut book, Yuna Choe and the Perfect Bowl of Rice. Seeing Korean American stories take up space in literature, art, and culture matters, especially for the ones who are still learning that their stories deserve to be seen.

We’re honored Jessica wore NUNCHI pieces for such a meaningful moment. Here’s to more stories told in our own voices, on our own terms.

This collaboration began at a pop-up.

I met Sam and Adam of in a room full of brands, products, and people on a mission to share their stories. What stayed with me was how clearly they knew theirs: Korean American, unapologetic, and committed to amplifying voices that have too often been asked to stay quiet.

Our first collaboration was a T-shirt with the definition of NUNCHI / 눈치. This pendant came after — a thank you, inspired by their Unapologetic Smiley tee and transformed into metal. Sneakers and jewelry may seem like different worlds, but they come from parallel craft cultures. Both are worn close, carrying identity and acting as armor.

This piece lives at that intersection: Korean American storytelling and the quiet power of taking up space without asking permission.

Wednesday at the bench.

The slowest part of every piece is usually the part no one asks about... and the part that makes it all worthwhile.

Some commissions begin with a brief.
This one began with a piece already beloved.

The team at .school came to me requesting a gift for Dae, Sundae School's Founder. Sundae School has been one of those quiet anchors in the AAPI brand world for years — thoughtful, irreverent, and deeply its own.

The concept: their signature mochi gummy, a soft, playful form that’s become part of their visual world. We translated it into a 3D metal pendant, keeping the shape instantly recognizable while adding one hidden detail: Dae's name built into the back.

A tiny gummy, made permanent.

Nori’s noseprint became the starting point for two custom pieces made for her mom.

We turned the very tip of her nose into a pendant, sculpted with a soft three-dimensional curve so the surface mirrors the real thing — tiny details and all.

And because no story about Nori would be complete without the obligatory puppy tax, here she is.

The Archive Edit is not a sale.
It’s the last of certain ideas before they leave the studio for good.

The one-of-one Yin + Yang Diamond Droplet Pendants were created as a study in balance — white diamond and yellow diamond, softness and strength, stillness and movement. Two pieces designed to mirror each other, but powerful on their own.

They belong to a chapter we’re closing.
When they’re gone, they won’t be restocked.

If you’ve been waiting for your first NUNCHI piece, this is your way in — rare, intentional, and offered at softened pricing so they can move into the right hands.

The mugunghwa has grown across the Korean peninsula for centuries. It appears in Korea’s national anthem, woven into how the country sees itself.

During occupation, it was pushed aside. People kept planting it anyway.

I put it on a ring because it holds meaning beyond its aesthetic.
A flower that blooms, fades, and returns again.
Season after season, without fail.

Made to be worn and seen, not just kept.

Rather than a sketch, this design started with screenshots. Pieces of rings, details pulled from different places all brought together into something entirely his.

For Brian, the ring had to live with him. He works with his hands, so comfort and durability were key. Meaning followed. An 18K yellow gold high-dome band, shaped with soft curves for an easy, everyday fit. Finished in satin for a matte, understated surface—nothing loud, just considered.

Inside, the details shift. Milgrain lining the interior, a quiet nod to his bride’s ring and a set of coordinates like a kept secret, hidden in plain sight.

May has always felt like a return. Not just to what we carry, but to how those things take shape.

To what’s been passed down, quietly, in instinct, in memory, in the way we see without needing to explain.

This month, we’re spending time with the pieces that hold those things.
