✨ How do we know if a piece of jewelry is actually what it claims to be? 🔬💎
There’s a lot more to jewelry testing than checking a hallmark! We use different tools and machines to examine, clean and evaluate each piece so we can better understand exactly what we’re looking at.
💡 Gem Light Box — Controlled lighting helps us examine gemstones more clearly, allowing us to look at color, transparency, inclusions and other characteristics that can offer clues about a stone’s identity.
💎 Yehuda Machine — An important part of our diamond-testing process, helping us screen stones and determine whether further testing is needed to distinguish natural diamonds, lab-grown diamonds and diamond simulants.
🔬 Microscope — Sometimes the smallest details tell the biggest story. Magnification lets us closely examine inclusions, facet details, wear, settings, hallmarks and other characteristics that can help with identification.
✨ Polishing Machine — Carefully cleaning and polishing an appropriate area of the jewelry can help us get a clearer look at the metal underneath years of tarnish, oxidation or surface buildup. Not every vintage or antique piece should be polished, so this is used selectively.
🫧 Ultrasonic Cleaner — When appropriate for the gemstone and setting, an ultrasonic removes dirt and buildup from hard-to-reach areas. A clean piece can make inspection much easier — but certain delicate, porous, treated or included gemstones should never go into an ultrasonic.
Jewelry is part history, science and detective work. 🕵️♀️💎 No single machine tells the entire story, which is why we use multiple testing methods, experience and careful examination together.
Because when you’re buying, selling or collecting jewelry, knowing what you have matters.
