Gilded Lace is a lace jewelry collection by designer Monika Knutsson. The jewelry is made from early to mid – 1900’s vintage lace, that is dipped 24k gold, rose gold, sterling silver, or gunmetal. Monika's collection of vintage lace comes mostly from Paris, Berlin and New York. The lace is often hand-made and was used for petticoats, corset covers, and the bottoms of bloomers.
“I want to add valu
e to old, forgotten lace that once was made by very skilled women. It is a way to honor the craftsmanship of the lace makers and to create modern and beautiful pieces that will last for a long time.”
Her inspiration for the designs comes from studying the way lace was fitted on men’s and women’s clothing during the first half of the 20th century. For example, her designs include cuff bracelets, faux-handkerchiefs brooches, and necktie necklaces. To make the jewelry, Monika hand-stitches the lace together to form the shape. The pieces are then dipped in sterling silver, gunmetal, rose gold or 24k gold. There is a limited production of every design.
