What do clippings have to do with self-expression?

As Charlotte Moss knows, sometimes the smallest things tell the biggest stories. A clipping, a collection, a passing inspiration… they all reveal something about who we are and how we see the world.

Here we dive into the stories beyond the pages of Charlotte’s latest book, At Home in Virginia, and the ideas that make a house, a book, or a life uniquely your own.

“Wildflowers were my first encounter with selecting, collecting, and arranging. They introduced me to a world with no boundaries and no rules. Buttercups and dandelions were the necklaces we made as children, and we felt bejeweled by them. Wildflowers taught me that what there is, there is, and to make the most of it, even if a single blossom is the bounty of the day.” Charlotte Moss

In an article with Flower Magazine Charlotte takes us back to summers spent along the Virginia river, collecting blackberries and gathering whatever caught her eye along the roadside: Honeysuckle, Queen Anne’s lace, chicory, and all the wonderfully imperfect things that most of us might simply call “weeds.”

Those early experiences shaped the way she sees the natural world, finding beauty in what’s growing right in front of us. And perhaps that’s the lesson that stayed with her most: finding beauty in the unexpected, and knowing that even a single blossom can be enough.

Swipe through for some of Charlotte’s wildflower arrangements and read about the memories behind her love of flowers at the link in our story.

“There are things you hunt for and things that just find you,” explains Charlotte.

What happens when you look at a painting of an interior and never know who lived there, but spend years imagining their story? That’s exactly how Charlotte describes her collection of interior paintings:

“The rooms are what drew me. They have a great mystery. I don’t want to know whose room it was. I want to dream about whose room it was.” Charlotte Moss
