I have always turned to art and creation as a means of self-care, therapy, and fulfillment. I started producing jewelry in mass quantities in December 2014. I had a wild idea that some people may actually want to purchase some of thi
s jewelry for themselves, and therefore I began to create with the purpose of providing people unique items they can be proud and excited to wear. I have very little formal jewelry-making training (dating back to 2009 in a "hot glass" class in high school!), therefore each piece is mostly an experiment and an adventure. I have dabbled in paper collage art, sculpture, hand-lettering, photography, printmaking, painting, and traditional Madhubani ink painting in India over the past 6 years. I hope to bring more of these mediums to my shop as I grow in the Etsy marketplace. Why Made In Names Boutique? As a Women's & Gender Studies major in college I grew to be passionate about women's lives, history, equality, and tradition. I have a fascination with maiden names and a peculiar curiosity of the social tradition of dropping that name come marriage. I am committed to honoring the legacy of strong women in my family lineage, by vowing to remember the maiden names just as much as the married names. As generations pass I do not want that history to be forgotten, for it is as much a part of me as anything. Hence, I present Made In Names Boutique, a play on words capturing the essence of who I am and where I come from. I am a one-woman operation, and therefore create these things in my spare time. I hope to update the shop weekly with new items, since my creative gears are always turning.
