Both rings in this carousel are lab grown diamonds. Same carbon, same crystal structure, same sparkle as a mined stone. The difference is where it formed and what it costs.

First up: two pear-shaped diamonds, one blue and one white, set bypass-style in 14K white gold, 3.31 carats total. A natural blue diamond that size is something most jewelers never see in person. Grown, it becomes something you can actually wear. That's the part of lab grown we find most interesting: blue, pink, yellow, colors that are nearly impossible to find in nature, become real options.

The marquise is the same idea in a quieter form. A clean V-shaped setting that cradles the point of the stone, and a price that would be several times higher if the diamond had come out of the ground.

Opal is October's birthstone, and it's one of the few stones that never looks the same twice. Tilt it and the color moves: greens into oranges, blues into flashes of red. That's called play-of-color, and no two opals do it quite alike.

This one is in the case right now, a large opal set in a diamond halo. It photographs well, but it's a different thing in person.

The aspens are turning gold on the hill, and Wolfgang Vaatz has been carving them in gold for years.

▪️Slide 1 is his Quaking Aspen ring. Two hand-carved gold leaves on a darkened silver branch, with a fire opal set between them. Opal is October's other birthstone, if you needed the excuse.
▪️Slide 2, the Aspen Allure earrings. Recycled sterling silver, carved to the "eyes" you see on aspen bark. The quietest piece of the three, and the one you'll end up wearing most.
▪️Slide 3, the River cuff. Sterling silver with a mountain ridgeline across the top and a river of fused 18K gold winding through it. This is the one people stop at in the case.

Wolfgang has been at this since 1986. He works in recycled silver and gold, and a lot of his pieces carry placer gold, the raw flakes and nuggets that come out of rivers with their edges worn smooth. He buys it directly from the prospectors.
