I was born and raised in North Philly, but my Puerto Rican roots are a part of everything I am. 🇵🇷

Creating these pieces mean so much more to me than making jewelry. The flag, dominoes, palm trees, and flor de maga represent a piece of our culture, resilience, beauty, and the love of having Boricua roots. They remind me of the aroma of Sunday dinners at my Wela’s house, salsa blasting throughout my neighborhood in Fairhill, and the palm trees I painted every year in high school for the Puerto Rican Parade Day art contest. It’s a reminder of a distant home that calls to each of us with roots - a home that we keep alive in our own way everyday.

This Hispanic Heritage Month, I’m grateful that Nilla + Honey gives me a way to share where my roots are from and create pieces that help others carry a little piece of the island with them too.

And if you haven’t, take the next few weeks to learn about and support a Latino business, artist, or community organization!
