๐Ÿฆ…โœจ Who else immediately stops for gemstone carvings at a show? ๐Ÿ‘€๐Ÿ’Ž

Just look at this falcon chick carved by Alfred Zimmerman of Idar-Oberstein. Every feather has been individually carved, right down to the underside ๐Ÿ˜ณโœจ

What makes pieces like this so fun to look at is the level of obsession behind them. Smooth feathers, rough feathers, sapphire eyes, gold talonsโ€ฆ someone really sat there thinking about every tiny detail ๐Ÿ’ซ

And honestly? The expression on his face completely won me over ๐Ÿ˜‚

๐Ÿ’Žโœจ Museums have a way of reminding you just how extraordinary the gem world really is. ๐Ÿ‘€

๐Ÿ‘‡ Tell me
Which do you find more exciting: historic jewels or rare collector gemstones? ๐Ÿ’Ž

One of my favorite parts of seeing the Smithsonianโ€™s National Gem & Mineral Collection each year is discovering the newest additions entering the collection. ๐Ÿ’ซ

This time, the case included everything from unusual garnets and vibrant spinels to a gemstone with a particularly mesmerizing optical surprise that immediately caught my attention. โœจ

What makes moments like this so special is getting to see not only beauty, but the kinds of rarity and gemological significance that museums choose to preserve for the future. ๐Ÿ‘€๐Ÿ’Ž

๐ŸŒน Some jewels become more meaningful with time ๐Ÿ‘€๐Ÿ’Ž
๐Ÿ‘‡ Tell me
Do you love jewelry even more when thereโ€™s a personal story connected to it?

One of the pieces that caught my attention from the Smithsonian collection was this ruby rose brooch featuring a Burmese ruby with a very personal history โœจ

What makes it especially compelling is that the stone originally belonged to designer Christine Daiโ€™s grandmother before eventually becoming part of one of her later creations ๐Ÿ’ซ

Thereโ€™s something beautiful about seeing a gemstone move through generations and then take on a completely new life through design. And now, the piece itself has become part of history after being gifted to the Smithsonian in 2025.

๐ŸŒฟ Mediterranean roots, Western influences, and a very distinctive point of view. โœจ๐Ÿ’Ž

๐Ÿ‘‡ Tell me
Which collection are you most drawn to right now: the olive branch pieces ๐ŸŒฟ, the Kazakhstan turquoise ๐Ÿ’™, or the Western-inspired designs? ๐Ÿค โœจ

One thing Iโ€™ve always found interesting about Lika Beharโ€™s work is how personal the inspirations feel. This year, that includes everything from olive branches and natural turquoise to subtle references pulled from Western style and dressing culture. ๐Ÿ’ซ

Thereโ€™s also a new turquoise from Kazakhstan entering the collection that immediately caught my attention. ๐Ÿ‘€โœจ

What makes the line irresistible is that even with all these influences coming together, the jewelry still feels wearable, effortless, and unmistakably hers.

๐Ÿ’Ž Need gemstone beads in every color, shape, quality, and price point imaginable? ๐Ÿ‘€โœจ

I caught up with the team behind Taj Company, a business that has been part of the trade since 1978 and is now entering a new chapter with the next generation joining the company. ๐Ÿ’ซ

What really stands out is the range. Ethiopian opals, cultured pearls, lapis, emerald, ruby, sapphire, black diamond beads, and so much more, available across an enormous variety of cuts, sizes, colors, and price points. โœจ

Whether youโ€™re looking for something more accessible or highly elevated, thereโ€™s a real depth of inventory here and a sense of continuity that comes from a family business evolving across generations. ๐Ÿ‘€

๐Ÿ’™ Some of the most fascinating sapphires in America are also some of the smallest ๐Ÿ‘€โœจ

I was looking at this brooch featuring Yogo sapphires from Montana, and what makes it so compelling is not just the color, but the rarity of the material itself ๐Ÿ’Ž

Yogo sapphires are known for their naturally vivid cornflower blue color, something collectors have admired for generations. But because the crystals tend to form quite flat, larger stones are exceptionally difficult to produce.

Thatโ€™s why pieces like this feel so special. Rather than focusing on one large gem, the design celebrates the beauty of many small stones coming together into a single jewel ๐Ÿ’ซ

๐Ÿฆ‹ Some museum pieces deserve a much closer look ๐Ÿ‘€๐Ÿ’Ž
๐Ÿ‘‡ Tell me
Are you more drawn to gemstone carvings or exceptional jewelry pieces?

I had the chance to see part of the Smithsonianโ€™s collection on display, and what struck me most was the incredible mix of artistry, rarity, and storytelling woven through these objects โœจ

From gemstone carvings by legendary Idar-Oberstein artists to butterfly and floral brooches featuring exceptional stones, thereโ€™s a level of craftsmanship here that feels increasingly rare ๐Ÿ’ซ

One piece in particular carries a fascinating connection to Montana sapphires, while another entered the Smithsonian collection only recently.

๐ŸŒˆ If color is what draws you in, this is a line to know. ๐Ÿ‘€๐Ÿ’Ž

What stands out about Izi Creations is how confidently they work with color. Itโ€™s not just about the stones themselves, but how theyโ€™re combined, shaped, and set into pieces that feel current and easy to wear. โœจ

Thereโ€™s a real understanding here of how to take vibrant gemstones and translate them into designs that collectors can actually live with, stack, and build into a collection over time. ๐Ÿ’ซ

And when you look a little closer, the thinking behind the sourcing and design approach becomes even more interesting.

๐Ÿ’Ž This necklace is connected to the largest diamond ever discovered ๐Ÿ‘€โœจ

At the last AGTA GemFair Tucson, the Smithsonian brought a piece with a remarkable link to the legendary Cullinan diamond, the historic stone that went on to become part of the British Crown Jewels. ๐Ÿ’ซ

What I find especially compelling is that this necklace isnโ€™t about the diamond itself, but about what happened around it. A moment of history, a significant gift, and a personal story translated into jewelry. โœจ

Itโ€™s a beautiful reminder that some pieces carry meaning far beyond what you see at first glance.

โœจ What if you could travel through jewelry? ๐ŸŒ๐Ÿ’Ž

What stands out oin Lika Beharโ€™s collection is her ability to balance the past and present so effortlessly. Thereโ€™s a depth to the work that comes from tradition, but it never feels heavy or dated. โœจ

Itโ€™s the kind of jewelry that reveals itself slowly. Texture, contrast, unexpected detailsโ€ฆthe more you look, the more you see. ๐Ÿ‘€

Thereโ€™s also a material story here that I think many will find especially interesting. ๐Ÿ’ซ
