Alvanel Designz brings together my love of accessories and fashion with the love and appreciation of music and art, especially African art. Music has been a huge part of my life, it runs through my veins and it has so since I was a child, leading to the passion of collecting albums (vinyl).) Whenever I sit down to create a piece, music is being played, I can thank my parents for my love of music.
My father is a drummer and has been since before I was born, introducing me to a large range of music, such as Brazilian, soul, funk, the blues, rock, 80’s pop. My brothers introduce me to hip-hop and break dancing, I remember playing a mixed tape that my brother had made with Erik B and Rakim “Pump up the Volume” over and over. Is was then when my love for true hip hop started and once I moved to United States my choices of music were endless. My mother loved to dance, and that’s where I get it from, dancing takes me away into a world where only the beats and my body moving to it matter. In my images collection, I show my appreciation of music by using album covers that have influence me throughout my life. In addition I have included my favorite paintings and movies to the images line. As a child I recall having art from Africa that my father brought from Mozambique as well as the photos that he would take. I remember looking at the photos and admiring their clothing, how the fabric had so many beautiful designs and my clothing seem so boring with such simple solid colors. Since then I became a lover of African fabric print and it is seen through out my house. As I became older my appreciation for art grew bigger , so it became a huge influence in my creations. Going to school for Fashion Design only flourished my love for fabric even more, the texture, the prints, the colors, and soon I started making my own jewelry with fabric. Whatever will inspiring me next will surely be seen through my jewelry!!
