This summer, I fell in love with antique buttons. I have gathered a special collection of them in order to make molds, which I am now able to offer as design options to my silver clay jewelry students in pendant making workshops. They are so intricate and, I think, so exciting to work with.
After looking through many, many buttons (rabbit hole!) I had a pretty good idea that each one I picked out would work for this purpose, but in order to make sure, I needed to make a sample pendant from each one. Most of them worked well. They are adorable. I’ve thought a lot about: what lives did they live before convening here on my desk? What clothing did they adorn? Who ran their fingers over them? I feel held in the common thread that humans have loved tiny, intricate things for... all of time.
And best of all, they have in common that feel like amulets. Yes there is something powerful about stringing a tiny jungle cat around your neck. Or a crow, a spider, a mama bird with her nest!
If you would like to bring any of these into your world, please join me for a stories sale here this Saturday. Purchasing these special sample piece helps me to offer these charming and accessible designs to students. These pendants will not continue to be long term offerings in my shop.
A final note - these will be priced under market value, as they are designs borrowed from the past. My wish is for them to go from serving a purpose in my practice, to being appreciated by you. They will range between $45 - $75.
