After I moved to Raleigh in 2007, Carolina Hurricanes fandom became one of the first North Carolina things I felt like I could claim as mine. With no ties to an ACC school and not being born hey, it felt nice to be tied to the community in some way.

I have been a Hurricanes fan longer than I've been a husband, a father, a freelance writer, hell longer than I've been doing this food blog. Over that time I've thought a lot about the pride, joy and community a Stanley Cup could bring this area. May we all find out together what its like in real life soon.

These pictures from the 2016-2017 season, the Canes debuted Homegrown Nights. The games featured North Carolina inspired dishes, posters from NC artist and special merch from NC apparel retailers. Miss those nights tbh.

A few years ago, I interviewed Chef Said Rahman for a story I did for when he was the executive chef for Vidrio. Dude had this infectious appreciation for life and I left that conversation with an impression that he'd become one of most acclaimed chefs in Raleigh.

When he had left Vidrio I was following his social media trying to pick up the digital breadcrumbs to his next venture. Then was announced, which was grander than anything I had initially theorized.

Got to visit last weekend and this radiatore pasta was the star of the evening. Thai Basil, wood wear mushroom, and buffalo milk butter. There was richness, depth from the mushrooms, and brightness from the basil.

The original buffalo wings restaurant migrating to the Triangle area sounds like the punchline for a joke about Cary. But in actuality, the Buffalo based Anchor Bar Restaurant (not to be confused with .raleigh bar in downtown) recently opened in North Raleigh's Falls Village.

Visiting the birth place of buffalo wings has long been on my culinary destination list. While I understand that this outpost they have in Raleigh may not capture the fun or atmosphere of the original location, it was still pretty damn good wings.

I turned 41 recently. For my birthday, I took a trip to Florence, SC to dine at . Being a big Buxton Hall fan, it lived up to all my hopes and the barbecue exceeded my expectations.

Went back the next day because of how much fan fave the chicken sandwich had, and it didn't disappoint either.

Heading home, I stopped to ride up to the top of the sombrero at . Felt like an appropriate way to celebrate another year in middle age.

My two favorite dishes from my recent trip to Boatman Spirits Co. Swordfish and fried halloumi cheese. Especially the swordfish, a dish with layers of flavors that is reason enough for a visit.

For a while I've wanted to celebrate the end of Ramadan with the Triangle Muslim community, the North Carolina Eid Fest was my opportunity.

The sheer amount of options available to you at Simon Says Dip This may intimidate your first visit. But if you lean into your most indulgent self, you will come out of the experience with something like this beauty. The Kitchen Sink cone, marshmallow core, caramel dipped and topped with chips + pretzels.

Although my takeout orders are frequent, it's been awhile since I had a meal inside of Peace China in Seaboard Station. That was until my oldest determined that it was our dinner destination the other week.

Dining at Peace China felt like sitting at the divide of what downtown Raleigh was when I had first moved here and what downtown is becoming. The decades old building with only a handful of businesses that was once slated to become a Harris Teeter reminds me of how I first found this part of town. But across the way it is now being towered over by new development of high-rise hotels, apartments, and Instagramable restaurants.

Now sure how long this simple Chinese takeout joint gets to keep going but I'm gonna to enjoy it while it last.

It's been a weird week for Person Street restaurants. The closing of ish and Station reminds us to celebrate the places that are there like Sugar Euphoria.
