After slightly more than 5 years of focusing away from metalsmith jewelry, my little business is about to re-launch in the next few weeks or months.

Six years ago, I perceived it would be my mother's final year of life and I hurried in the first few months of 2015 to make a lot of jewelry. I actually, in about 5 months, made the amount of jewelry I typically sold in about 5 years. And so I have had an inventory of my pieces on hand and have sold it slowly, mostly to people I know who follow my personal page.

My Etsy shop remains asleep for now. I will create new works for it before I relearn how Etsy works. As you know, sales and social media sites constantly evolve and if you're not active on them, they leave you behind, creating a learning curve when you return.

I'm older and tireder now. I was very active with the Dems and activists in rescuing our democracy from the far Right leadership that took our government over for awhile. I'm using this year to recover from that and to look deeply inward artistically and to create a way to remain politically active and be a working art jeweler in a balanced way.

This page has also been dormant and this is my first post here in a very long while. Thank you for hanging with me and for some of you finding your way to my personal sphere. I will be posting new works as they appear.

I have moved my whole studio back to what was my guest room and am, daily, getting it more ready for me to work. My new pickle and pickle pot arrived today. I'm waiting for my hammer rack in the next few days. And I need to take my acetylene torch in for inspection and new gas before I dare to light it again.

I've also been digging deeply into all manner of stored stuff throughout my home. I remodeled my kitchen and reduced the amount of stored stuff there. And now I'm 70% through the process of weeding through stored art materials (besides metalsmithing stuff) and other things that inhabited the room I'll soon create in.

This is one of my sterling birdhouse pendants with a Russian chaorite stone.

On another note, some images from the once and future metalsmith jeweler (me). It will be awhile longer before I return to making jewelry because we hope to remodel our home to include a new screened front porch and this will affect where Glen works in the house and where my studio will be. Right now, I have everything in this room with me, but the space is too tight to feel creative in. In a few weeks or months, this won't be true.
Now that I don't dedicate 50-70 hours of volunteer work to the local Dem Party, I foresee more free time ahead. I will be working with other activist organizations on future elections and on democratic issues, but in an independent way that I hope will allow me a balance between being a maker and being an elections activist.
I thought you might like to see some of the images on my jewelry website before I take the site down. This is a part of my re-think, since I don't believe in websites very much any more. I do believe in social media, which is where I spend my time. Most of the jewelry in these images, if not all, sold a long time ago. But my web designer, Whitney Smith took these beautiful photos.

Writing to say that my business in on hiatus for a little while longer. I have some other events and projects more active in my life right now. But as spring arrives, I'll be freshening my sites and getting my Etsy shop back online.

Thank you to new viewers who have 'liked' my page. I'm eager to get back into my studio in February, and to show you my work again!

Happy New Year!

I'm very delighted to announce that my CityRusticJewelry shop on Etsy is now live again! I've been wanting to do this for awhile and the day has arrived when I've had the hours to dust it off, edit some things, and drop a LOT of my prices -- just in time for the holidays.

I ship anywhere in the U.S. for free, via USPS Priority Mail. For international customers, I look into shipping costs and we figure it out together, usually splitting it. I can't pay another country's tariffs or taxes.

Meanwhile, please visit my shop and look around, simply by clicking this link! I'm mostly a handmade/Boho/organic metalsmith designer (go figure!) and flowers and stars and hearts -- and some abstractions -- are my themes. I work in sterling, sometimes copper, and use an acetylene torch and other archaic methodologies to bring my hand-drawn doodlings to life. A lot of my work has oxidized patinas. And my stones are natural and funky by nature. I'm just not a fine-finish artist. I make jewelry like I see the natural world.
