My name is Cathy Hooker and I'm kind of obsessed with yarn... To be more exact, I'm obsessed with yarn that is super squishy, soft, amazingly rich in texture as well as vibrant, deep and vividly colored. Not that I'm particular or anything... ;)
So a few years ago, I toyed with the idea of starting an online yarn shop, where I'd resell the yarn of indie-dyers I admired. So my husband and I starte
d that process and then our life got really complicated in the form of our first child and a big move to a totally new part of the state. In the nearly four years since that time, my appreciation for fine yarn has done anything but waned... In fact, it's grown so much that, I became curious about learning to dye my own yarn. In October of 2016, I found that a very talented indie-dyer named Brenda Lavell of Phydeaux Designs & Fibre decided to offer an online course on how to dye yarn using her method. It must have been fate that I was in the right place at the right time. I mean, sure, I could have been anywhere. It was really fate that my iPhone was in front of me, and I was paying attention to it... Yet, I digress. You can imagine how much I wanted to do this. In case you can't, let me attempt to convey how much I wanted to do this. I REALLY WANTED TO DO THIS!!! In any case, I'm the CFO around here. If you don't know, that's Chief Financial Officer. That means I know things about 'the money,' and so I know it was a bit of a lean time for us in the 'the money' department. So, I showed my husband the details of the class and asked him what he thought... Through a text. This is the actual exchange. Swoon! :)
It's true. It's true what they say about how you never forget your first time. Well, after that first amazing day of dippin' and dyin' skeins of 100% Superwash Merino Wool, I was in... It had been maybe 12 hours, and already the memories of what life was like before I had taken my first steps into this larger world were starting to fade away...
Alright. That was just a smidgen on the dramatic side. However, I am trying to paint a picture of a pretty darn cool, and life-altering experience, that only occurred because I decided to explore my happiness! :)
I wanted and needed this to be more than a hobby... I needed to revisit that idea of building a business like we had several years ago. This time, however, I was going to sell my creations. Luckily for me, my husband believes in me 100%, and is willing to back me with reckless abandon. Well, not really reckless, but pretty much unconditionally. He's got a penchant for research, and very much does sweat the details, so I feel pretty darn good about how we're approaching the practical side of things. It would be very easy to get lost in the creative part of the endeavor and overlook the technical part. Luckily, we make a great team, and keep each other on our toes. So here we are in December 2016, only a very short time later, and we are launching our online store! Here goes! With Love & Wonder,
Cathy Hooker
