On the bench today: stone setting without solder or flames. 🔨

In Prong Set Stones with No Solder or Flames, students will learn how to create a stone pendant using cold connection techniques, including design planning, prong placement, and sawing.

This is a great class for learning a different way to set stones, and it’s open to all levels.

Some jewelry designs just need the right moment to come to life. ✨

Kim St. Jean is sharing a look inside her sketchbook and reminding us that an idea from years ago is never wasted. Keep sketching. Keep creating. Your next finished piece may already be waiting on the page.

Today at Tucson Jewelry School, we’re getting into the details that make Southwestern jewelry feel truly special. ✨

In Southwestern Embellishments, students will be creating handmade design elements like rope wire, flowers, feathers, leaves, shot plate embellishments, sawn appliqué pieces, dye casts, and more.

These are the little details that can completely transform a future jewelry piece from simple to stunning.

Who else loves those classic Southwestern jewelry details?

Don’t let a jewelry idea disappear just because you can’t make it right away. ✍️✨

Sketch it. Take a photo. Write down your notes. Save the spark for later.

I found one of my old sketchbooks and couldn’t resist flipping through a few designs I had nearly forgotten about. Collars, dimensional pendants, bracelets… each sketch brings back a different idea, experiment, or moment of inspiration.

It’s always interesting to look back and see where your creative journey has taken you.

Do you keep a sketchbook for your jewelry designs? What forgotten idea would you love to revisit?

Today’s class is bringing a little attitude to the jewelry bench. ✨

In Jewelry with Something to Say, students are creating pieces that feature words, sayings, and personal messages, from cheeky and sassy to sweet, meaningful, or inspiring.

Add stones, layer metal, keep it simple, make it bold. This one is all about making jewelry that actually says something.

A peek inside Kim St. Jean’s sketchbook reveals more than drawings. It shows the beginning of designs that eventually come to life at the jewelry bench. 📖🔨

There’s something satisfying about making the whole piece yourself.

Today at Tucson Jewelry School, students are working on Basic Earrings – Headpins, Beads & Earwires, learning how to create wire findings and basic components instead of relying only on store-bought pieces.

Simple, useful skills that can show up in project after project.

On the bench today: Caged Prong Geodes ✨

Students are learning how to build a caged prong setting around uniquely shaped stones, giving each geode a secure setting while still letting its natural shape and texture shine.

It’s simple, useful, and such a fun technique to have in your jewelry-making toolbox.
