Gisela Kati Metalwork and Lampwork PDF Tutorials and Jewelry. My goal is to make jewelry that is unique, colorful, and perfect for everyday use.

In my work , I use mostly silver and copper as metals and as I love color, lots of it in the form of glass, enamels, polymer clays, leather and semiprecious stones. For more color and textures a variety of metalsmithing techniques come into play like: patinas ,forging , foldforming , stamping and others.

You can make a lot of different shapes using a round disk cutter. Here is how I cut a trillion shape. Yes , this is one of the larger cutters. Yes , it works with a brass hammer, no need for a press.

Haven’t done this in a long time, working with such a thick wire (4mm) is a little more complicated than the wires I have been using lately ( gauge 10 at the most, very soft)and no anealing. But I looove the way it came out!😍

All handmade chain necklace and earrings. The texture on the disks was made using an acid etched hammer, also handmade.

In part #4 we are making the jump rings, assembling and applying the patina. Liver of sulfur is a potassium sulfide compound that reacts with the copper to produce a bonded layer of copper sulfide on the surface of the metal. This dark patina, makes the texture standout when scrubbed with steel wool, to remove the dark layer from the higher parts of the texture.

Making the beaded links. The wire links have a rounded end that is forged to add interest to the shapes. The wire needs to be thin enough so that 2 wires fit trough the bead hole.

The making of the beads involves the making of spacer beads in brown & green (22), ivory &green (16) , larger beads decorated with with a “twisty” of4 colors (7). A total of 46 beads for the chain & earrings, yes I made a matching pair of earrings.

Everything on this necklace is made by hand, the glass beads, the wire/bead links and the stamped flat wire jump rings. Had to do the whole process in parts: 1- the textured disks. 2-the matching glass beads. 3-the glass/ wire forged links. 4-the stamped jump rings & assembly.

Here is the other set of earrings & pendant, that I fired with the ones in the last reel. These I tried enameling on the lampwork torch and it was a disaster. I think it was a combination of thin metal and to big and hot flame ftom the glass torch. I have done a lot of bigger pieces with no problems other than dumping the enamel from the piece while moving it towards the torch🤦‍♀️🤣

Lost count of how many times the enamel fell off, had to grind the enamel off the hole , or the back or the other hole🤦‍♀️🤦‍♀️🤦‍♀️ , had to cut another pair of rectangles , that’s how I ended with 3 pieces of the same design. The messed up piece transformed into the pendant for the other pair of earrings I was firing with these pair. Finally happy with the 2 sets of earrings & pendant!

Bumpy rectangles with 2 green enamels. Enamels are finely ground glass . These were fired to fuse de glass to the copper base. In this case 3 firings for each piece, 1-back, 2-front base color, 3-front dash of the other green. The last set using 3 colors, 4 firings each-> 8 total for the pair of earrings. Fired in the microwave kiln, it is still raining , hot as hell & the mosquitoes are wild , so no working with the garage door open ( no torching of any kind, no glass, no enamel) and the large enameling kiln gets REALLY HOT.
