HUGE Sea Glass Bottle Base Necklace up for grabs! This piece came from the late 1800s - early 1900s. The glass thickness across the base is uneven & asymmetrical. This uneven distribution of glass is a classic hallmark of hand-blown, shop-made bottles from the turn of the century before machines perfected uniform thickness. It is also completely smooth across the bottom. This indicates it was made in a cup-bottom mold, a technique highly popular from the 1880s to the 1910s. In this method, the mold seam wraps around the very outer edge of the bottle rather than crossing the bottom, leaving the base entirely smooth. I used my dremel drill with a core bit & finished it with a massive grommet, strung on black deer hide with a big lobster claw clasp & adjustable length chain.
