“Obviously the Afghan situation evolves daily. There is insurmountable evidence that, after 20 years of time to consider, having children and grandchildren, some educated overseas, the Taliban leadership is very different than two decades ago. Who amongst us HASN’T changed many of our thoughts and ways in the 20 years between our teens and our 40’s? That said, there are two Talibans: the leadership and a rogue element trained in Pakistan and not yet connected to the leadership. There are more reasons to be hopeful than you will hear on the news, ie, positive decisions and acts that could never have happened 20 years ago. IF things can be held together through this crisis season, no one overly provoked or insulted to radical reaction, there CAN be a Unity government and a future of relative peace in a Federalist style government, economic development based around Natural Resource private sector international PARTNERSHIPS, and justice in education and careers for women. The cards are all on the table for this to be POSSIBLE if wisdom and patience can prevail in this current storm.” -Michael H Peters
