What happens when discarded materials are given a second life?

SPARED brings together 25 North American artists who transform waste, scraps, and overlooked materials into compelling contemporary art, exploring sustainability, renewal, and the creative possibilities of reuse.

I’m honored to have my work, Ocean Bloom, included in this exhibition, where reclaimed plastic is transformed into art jewelry inspired by the beauty—and fragility—of our oceans.

NOT FOR A TURTLE’S NECK necklace gives used plastic a second life as contemporary art jewelry. Rather than becoming a threat to marine life, it has been transformed into a sculptural statement about creativity, sustainability, and hope. Every loop is a reminder that the materials we throw away can become part of the solution rather than the problem.

My bracelet “Scarlet Renewal” is going to be part of Biggs Museum of American Art Members’ Show. Here there is a little statement:

“Scarlet Renewal” by contemporary jewelry artist Jowita Allen, gives used plastic a second life as wearable art. Hand-cut and shaped into vibrant, petal-like forms, the bracelet celebrates transformation, proving that materials once destined for waste can bloom again as bold expressions of beauty, creativity, and sustainability.
